Exercise Physiology Accreditation (AEP) 


Exercise physiology accreditation (AEP) is available to graduates of an ESSA-accredited exercise physiology tertiary degree. All AEP applicants must also meet ESSA’s practitioner accreditation entry requirements. 

There are three different accreditation pathways depending on whether you undertook an ESSA-accredited or a non-ESSA accredited course. Find out if your course is an ESSA-accredited course - HERE


How to Apply: 

Completing an online Application Form: 

  1. Click on the Eligibilty Assessment tab below. 
  2. Complete all questions to determine the appropriate Exercise Physiology pathway.
  3. Once completed an eligibility outcome will be provided onscreen and via email, click on the appropriate pathway provided. 
  4. Select 'Use this Application' to commence your accreditation application. 
  5. Complete all answers ensuring appropriate information / evidence is uploaded with your application. 
  6. Your application doesn’t have to be completed and submitted at once, it can be saved and completed at a later time. Simply click the save icon located at the bottom of the form and access the form via a Saved Forms tab located under the accreditation type at www.essa.org.au.
  7. The Application Form includes mandatory questions that require answering before your application can be submitted and a payment gateway for application fees. Note - Incomplete mandatory questions will be identified when you attempt to submit the form.

IMPORTANT - A certified copy for your ID must be supplied with your application to ESSA. Examples of acceptable photo ID and instructions on how to certify the copy can be found HERE.

PATHWAY 1 PATHWAY 2 PATHWAY 3
Four-Year Undergraduate Course Three-Year Undergraduate ES Course (Accredited) + Postgraduate EP Course Three-Year Undergraduate ES Course (Non-Accredited) + Postgraduate EP Course
  • Successful completion of a four-year course accredited by ESSA at the level of both exercise science (ES) and exercise physiology (EP).  You are eligible for this pathway if your course held Provisional or Full course accreditation at the time you completed it
  • Meet all the entry requirements for ESSA practitioner accreditation
  • Meet the Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) requirements through the ESSA-accredited ES course pathway  
  • Successful completion of an ESSA-accredited postgraduate EP course
  • Meet all the entry requirements for ESSA practitioner accreditation
  • Hold accreditation as an Exercise Scientist
  • Successful completion of an ESSA-accredited postgraduate EP course
  • Meet all the entry requirements for ESSA practitioner accreditation
